Okitsu Zagyoso Memorial Hall
Zagyo-so is a villa built in Okitsu Kiyomiji-cho, overlooking the scenic Kiyomi Lagoon, as a retirement home when Saionji Kinmochi was 71 years old (1912). The building was designed by Koju Norimatsu, an architectural engineer at Sumitomo's headquarters, and carpenters were brought in from Kyoto to build it. The name of Zagyoso is based on a Chinese legend by Viscount Chifuyu Watanabe. From the living room, the Izu Mountain Range and Miho no Matsubara could be seen across the garden. There was no end to the number of government dignitaries who visited Zagyoso on what was called an ``Okitsu pilgrimage''.
