Maisaka-shuku

Maisaka has been a crucial transportation hub since ancient times. Being one of the towns of the Tokaido, the only means of transportation to Arai, the other side of the bank, was the Imagire boat. When Ieyasu won the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600 and effectively seized power, he planned to develop highways leading to various places around Edo to strengthen his control. The following year, in January of 1601, he set up over 40 post town stations in the Tokaido. Maisaka was designated as a post town station this time, and Maisaka-shuku was born.

Maisaka Town Tourist Association

The Maisaka Town Tourist Association is in a good location, a 3-minute walk from JR Tokai Bentenjima Station. The symbol tower of Lake Omotehamana is located in front of you. The Maisaka fishing port is blessed with rich marine products. Many hotels and restaurants are open. Kita Ganka, a departure and arrival point for ferries, is still located on the north side of Maisaka fishing port. The wakihonjin (extra inn) of Maisaka-shuku has been restored and designated as a cultural property of the town.
