Hamamatsu-shuku

Hamamatsu-shuku is the 29th post town station of the 53 stages of the Tokaido from Edo and the 25th from Kyoto. As it was the castle town of Hamamatsu Castle, it was the largest post town on the Tokaido with six honjin (Japanese inns used by feudal lords, court nobles, and officials of the shogunate for official business) and 94 inns. Unfortunately, due to the effects of war damage, only traces of the main camp and the bulletin board remain on the information board.

Tokugawa Ieyasu resided in the castle for 17 years from when he was 29. It is also known as the Castle of Success. The existing stone wall is from when the castle was built. It is famous for the way it is piled, called nozarezumi. The exhibits in the castle tower were completely renewed in January 2021. A new store has opened. Original products, such as castle stamps, are on sale. Please enjoy it together with a walk in Hamamatsu Castle Park when you come.
