Kakegawa-shuku

Kakegawa-shuku is the 26th inn counting from Shinagawa-shuku, the 53 stages of the Tokaido. According to records from 1843, there were 960 houses, including 2 honjin (main inn) and 30 inns. Tennenji Temple on the east side of the inn and Enmanji Temple on the west end were used as lodgings when the Korean envoys visited. Although today the ruins of Kakegawa-shuku are under development and almost nothing remains of the post station, the names of the towns at that time, such as Nitocho, Renjakucho, and Nakamachi, still remain.
