Shimada-shuku

"Hakone Hachiri can be crossed by horses, but the Oi River cannot be crossed."
The Oi River, which runs through the center of Shimada City, was banned from being built on bridges and ferries during the Edo Period, making it a difficult spot on the old Tokaido road for many travelers crossing the east and west. The remains of the “Kawagoshi Highway” and the Horai Bridge, which was built to cross the Oi River in the Meiji Period, are still alive in the city today.
In addition, the Shimada City Museum is located on the Kawagoshi Highway, where you can see valuable historical materials related to post towns.

Horai Bridge 897.4 Chaya

This is a product sales and tourist information center that opened in 2018 at the foot of the world's longest wooden pedestrian bridge, Horai Bridge, which was built to develop tea fields on the right bank of the Oi River. We provide and sell concept teas, middle grade green tea soft serve ice cream, and local specialty souvenirs linked to the city promotion "Shimada City Green Tea Plan."
The Green Square (Horai Bridge 897.4 Square) that opened in 2022 holds events such as store openings and is crowded with many visitors on holidays.
