Okabe-shuku

Okabe-shuku is the 21st post town station on the Tokaido, located at the foot of Utsunoya Pass. It stretches about 1.5 km from north to south, with a population of about 2,300 people. The neighboring village of Uchiya was used as a post town station when there was a shortage of manpower, as Okabe-shuku was a small post town station. The bedding and other items were borrowed from Fujieda-shuku when the daimyo lord procession took place. Along the old Tokaido, there are remains of “Okabe-shuku Great Inn Kashiwaya” and “Okabe-shu Honjin Ruins,” which are also cultural properties that constitute Japan Heritage. The "Great Inn Kashiwaya" is a building built at the end of the Edo Period and is a nationally important building.

Product Hall Kashibaya

In addition to local specialties and handicrafts, you can also buy nostalgic candy store toys. At the cafe corner you can enjoy kashiwa mochi, oden, and amazake with sake lees from the long-established local sake brewery, Hatsukame Sake Brewery.
