Okabe-shuku

Okabe-shuku is the 21st post town station on the Tokaido, located at the foot of Utsunoya Pass. It stretches about 1.5 km from north to south, with a population of about 2,300 people. The neighboring village of Uchiya was used as a post town station when there was a shortage of manpower, as Okabe-shuku was a small post town station. The bedding and other items were borrowed from Fujieda-shuku when the daimyo lord procession took place. Along the old Tokaido, there are remains of “Okabe-shuku Great Inn Kashiwaya” and “Okabe-shu Honjin Ruins,” which are also cultural properties that constitute Japan Heritage. The "Great Inn Kashiwaya" is a building built at the end of the Edo Period and is a nationally important building.

Fujieda City Okabe General Information Center

The tourist information center, which opened near the Okabe branch in April 2006, introduces tourist information about Okabe-shuku on the Tokaido and seasonal events. Local specialties are also exhibited in the facility. It also serves as a resting space for customers who have come from far away.
