Kanbara-shuku

Kanbara-shuku was the 15th post town station from Nihonbashi during the Edo Period. The retro townscape is the attractive quality of this inn. It is the only post town station in the prefecture that has been certified as a historic national highway. It is full of highlights such as large traditional residences with characteristic namako walls and Taisho modern architecture that blends Japanese and Western styles. It is forbidden to walk in a hurry here. Walk slowly while looking at the explanation board and enjoy the feeling of slipping back in time.

Former Izumiya Resting Place

Former Izumiya Resting Place (Hatago Izumiya) was a place where travelers on the Tokaido stayed during the Edo Period.
It was a single building when it was operating as Hatago Izumiya. However, about 7.27 m on the left is open to the public as a private residence today. A little less than 3.63 m on the right is open to the public as a resting place. The building was built in the Tenpo Era (1830-1844). It did not collapse even in the Great Ansei Earthquake. Please come by as you can observe the construction of the building at that time at the rest place for this reason.
